Geforce Image Quality Fix

December 04, 2007 11:57 PM, Hardware, Eric Hutzelman, Comments

Introduction
The GeForce2 line of cards has been critized for bad 2d quality because they use poor RF filtering. However, with a little soldering, you can bypass the filter and get crystal clear text again! The card I used is an Elsa Gladiac Geforce2 GTS (32 DDR).

Remove Capacitors
The first picture shows the card after the filter capacitors have been ripped off and the inductors shorted. With my lame soldering skills, I managed to short out the red and green circuit paths to ground and ended up having to do some reconstructive surgery.

Bridge Any Problems
What I had to do to fix my problem was break the bottom two circuits and jump them (I used a capacitor lead). As you can see by the size of the dime, this isn't the largest of work areas.

Work Environment
This is my super-professional expert soldering workstation specially setup to work on integrated circuit sized components. Ok, it's just a table with a lamp and a cheap soldering iron. But the digital multimeter really lends a sense of professionalism.
